Since the mid 20th century, the Scranton Metropolitan area has struggled with its identity. Coal was the fabric of the area, it was not just in the veins underneath its cities, but in the heart and soul of its inhabitants. When this industry came to an abrupt end, the area struggled to find something to identify with.
The citizens of Scranton did not realize that the metropolitan area was not based in its central industry, but within themselves. There is so much more to the area then what they were able to dig up and burn. The food, the mountains, the architecture, and the meeting of good friends at one of the many entertainment venues. The finding of new ways to make something old into something new and bringing in new technologies without insulting the integrity of their traditions. This is Scranton, this is moving forward.
The task was to reposition Captain Morgan Spiced Rum bottle with a new look. I chose to use the popularity of the mixed drink Captain and Cola. The mixed drink is currently mentioned, though unassumingly, on the back of the bottle. By using this marriage, I was able to bring attention to the new packaging.
During the Creative engine at UCM, two fellow students and I were tasked to come up with a poster series for the Eclectic Cafe. The only stipulation was to make it so they could change out who was performing on the different days throughout the summer. We came up with the idea of having an overall posters that can have the different bills pasted on top of each other as the summer carried on.
This was a poster series and take away idea for the BBC Proms Doctor Who special. For this project, I wanted to bring type and imagery together as one. So I took the term At The Proms and designed lock ups of three very recognizable characters from the modern series. I wanted the series to have a hands on approach so I silk screened the posters and the t-shirt, while hand making and painting the info-graphic stuffed toy and hand painted the box with a die cut window for the t-shirt.
I created a child's book that gives a basic background in vampire mythology and descriptions of modern day portrayals. Keeping it child friendly, I utilized simple illustrations and different materials to give the images a tactile feel, which helped make the book more interactive for a younger audience.
To create a restaurant on a single delicious dish that comes in many varieties. The kebab is a tradition of the nomadic people but can also be found in many cultures around the world. Our restaurant design is based on and incorporates nomadic life. We wanted to bring together nomadic style with a modern contemporary feel.
The concept is for an online website all about Beer. The stakeholder is a marketing group that would like the website to emulate a beer garden and be a community based website. They would like to target people who enjoy beer, not just for the physical effects but also for those who really enjoy the taste. The site would be called CharlieMopps.com after the mythical inventor of beer, who is sung about in the Irish Drinking Song “Beer, Beer, Beer”.
